Enhancing posts with pictures

A picture says more than a thousand words. Activity no. 5 in the 30-days-to-kick-start-your-blogging challenge is about adding pictures to your posts.

Photo by Today is a good day
A picture adds depth to my blog, while it gives visual representation to what I am writing about. I think it is a good thing that I can connect with different learning styles this way. Some like to read, some to listen, some to write and some to watch. I think I can reach more learners through my blog when I use different kind of medias in my posts.

There are some things I have to think about, when finding media that I want to use in my posts. I think it is really important to protect Copyright, and therefore I would endorse using Creative Commons material with the right attribution to the creator.
Like this beautiful photo from Vik, Norway. I found it through Compfight, which enables you to search Creative Commons Material from for example Flickr. I checked the Creative Commons License for the photo, to make sure I was allowed to post it. This picture is by Today is a good day and is under a Some rights reserved License. You can find the original photo here.

I also like to use my own photos, then I don't have to worry about somebody else's copyright. I just have to make sure that nobody uses my photos in a way that I don't want to.

When I have been looking around other blogs this last couple of weeks I have been seeing really nice and interesting pictures that add extra spice to the blogs. For example the one from Britt Gow, where she has used PhotoFunia. It inspired me to try it out as well. And this is the result:

  1. I do a lot of workshops with teachers and always need creative graphics for powerpoint. I try very hard to respect copyright. I did not know about Compfight, so this will be a terrific resource. Thanks!

  2. Hi Anna
    I love your PhotoFunia pictures.
I agree with your comment about different learning styles. I think blogs are a great way for the wide range of students successes and passions to be highlighted and showcased. I need to learn how to put audio and video shots on my blog too. Scary!! I really enjoyed your post.
    Thanks Oona
