I haven't tried out any avatar tools earlier, so I had to try two different kinds. Here is the result from Picassoheads and from Reasonably clever.

Using avatars is a good way to make sure people recognize you as you are active online. I prefer to use a photo of me, since I want to use my blogging professionaly and I think that people should know what I look like. My presence online makes it possible for future employers, parents and students to read about me and since my name isn't unique I think it is important that you can tell from my picture that you have found the right one. And I would like fellow educators to see the true me, maybe because I myself find it easier to communicate with somebody who I know what she/he looks like.

I have myself participated in some classes online on different kind of learning platforms and I find it nice when you can see who's attending the class. I think that it is another issue, posting your photo, in a more private environment, of course you have to trust your classmates not to post your picture anywhere!
I like both your avatars...but we seem to agree, we prefer our own photos. Either way, I understand that using some visual representation for our work online has value.
ReplyDeleteI also like your "about me" page. A good balance between sharing and protecting some privacy, I think.
Congratulations on starting up the new blog. You've got one guy following you on his RSS feed now!
Emil, thanks for your nice comments. Good that you liked my about-me-page, I think it's hard to know what to reveal and what not to.
ReplyDeleteHi Anna,,
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating in the Teacher's Blogging Challenge and commenting on my blog. I always admire people who can communicate in several different languages and you have demonstrated excellent communication skills with this blog.
My father was originally from Aland and I have visited there, Sweden and Norway when traveling. Your country has a very good reputation in international education, so many people will be interested in this blog. Best of luck with your teaching career and I look forward to reading more posts.

ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and I am returning the visit. I agree with you, students as they are in our care need avatars. However as you say it is good to be able to see the actual person in an adult professional environment. Hey and I encourage you to try the Voki. Not many of us are able to speak more than one language. I can only speak English, although one of my nieces speaks Swedish and did some of her tertiary education in Sweden.

@Britt: Thanks that you commented on my post. I always find it quite interesting that Sweden seems to have a good reputation when it comes to education. While I was living in Germany I got to hear the same thing as well. When you are working in Sweden you seem to see so much of struggling in public schools - to get enough fundings and to get all students to have good learning experiences. Unfortunately statistics show that more and more students at the end of 9th grade has insufficient skills in Swedish, Mathematics and English... Maybe there's a post that waits to be written here ...
